Biography, Ghazals, Mushaira Videos & Sung Poetry

Asrar ul Hasan Khan, known by his pen name Majrooh Sultanpuri, was a distinguished Urdu poet and one of Hindi cinema's most celebrated lyricists. Born in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Majrooh was a member of the Progressive Writers' Movement and his early poetry reflected strong socialist ideals. His film songs combined poetic excellence with mass appeal, making him one of the most successful lyricists in Bollywood history. Majrooh wrote for over 350 films and worked with legendary music directors like S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, and Laxmikant-Pyarelal. His ghazals and nazms addressed themes of love, social justice, and human dignity with remarkable sensitivity. Despite his commercial success in cinema, Majrooh never compromised on the literary quality of his work. He received numerous awards including the Filmfare Award and Dadasaheb Phalke Award, cementing his legacy as both a progressive poet and a master lyricist.
